Furnace Repair in Hayden
A furnace that won't light, won't stay lit or makes a sound it never made before has a reason behind it. We track down that reason, explain it plainly and repair the part that actually failed. A written quote comes before any work begins, and we test the full heating cycle before we leave.
Repairs That Hold Up Through the Winter
A furnace rarely fails all at once. Usually one small thing slips first: a flame sensor coated with residue, a loose wire on the control board, a pressure switch hose that has cracked. Swap a part without asking why it failed, and you often see the same problem again a few weeks later.
Our repairs start with the cause. We check how the furnace lights, how it breathes and how it shuts down, then make the fix and set everything back to the manufacturer's numbers. Those small adjustments are what keep a repair working in January instead of only on the day we visit.
If your system is older and the repair no longer makes sense, we will say so honestly and walk you through your options, including furnace installation. The choice stays yours.
What a Furnace Repair Includes
A complete diagnosis
We observe a full heating cycle and check the igniter, flame sensor, limit and pressure switches, inducer motor and blower. Measurements lead us to the fault, not hunches.
Igniter and burner service
Flame sensors and igniters get cleaned or replaced, and we look over the burners for rust and an uneven flame. A steady, clean flame wastes less gas and puts less stress on the heat exchanger.
Gas pressure matched to the rating
Whenever we work on the gas side, we read the manifold pressure and set it to the furnace's rating. It takes about five minutes, and many fast repairs leave it out.
Wiring checked and tightened
We snug terminals, swap out burnt wires and test the control board and capacitor. Loose connections are behind many of the no-heat calls that come and go.
Vents and condensate drain
For high-efficiency furnaces, we clean out the condensate trap and drain line and make sure vent pipes are sealed and properly sloped. Clogged drains and sagging vents set off safety switches.
Safety review at the end
We check the heat exchanger for signs of cracking, test the air around the furnace for carbon monoxide and make sure each safety control cuts the burners when it should.
Signs Your Furnace Needs a Repair Visit
It runs but blows cool air
The blower is working, but the burners aren't lighting or staying lit. A dirty flame sensor or a failed igniter is a common culprit.
Short cycling
Heat kicks on, quits after a short burst, then repeats the pattern all day. Overheating, a sensor fault or a thermostat problem usually sits behind it, and all those restarts wear parts out fast.
New noises
Banging at startup, squealing or a steady rattle each mean something different. Delayed ignition, a worn blower bearing or a loose panel are all worth catching early.
Rising gas bills with no change in use
A furnace that burns more gas for the same comfort is working harder than it should. Out-of-spec gas pressure or a struggling blower motor can be behind it.
Yellow flame or a gas smell
Burner flames should be mostly blue, so a lazy yellow flame deserves a prompt look. A gas odor is different: get everyone outside, contact your gas utility from a safe spot, and once they've cleared the area we can come check the furnace.
What Happens on a Furnace Repair Call
- 1
Tell us what's going on
Call and describe the symptoms, any flashing codes on the furnace and about when it started acting up. We pick up day and night when heat goes out in the cold, and there are no emergency or after-hours fees for nights or weekends.
- 2
We test it in person
Your technician runs a full heating cycle, checks each part and shows you which one failed. Should you approve the repair, the diagnostic fee goes toward it.
- 3
Price in writing before work
Nothing starts until you have a written quote. The bill holds no surprises, and you're welcome to take time to decide.
- 4
The repair, done with care
Drop cloths go down around the furnace. We make the fix, then return the gas pressure, wiring and airflow to spec.
- 5
Final testing and tidy-up
We cycle the furnace several times, make sure it shuts down safely and leave the space as clean as it was when we arrived.
What Sets the Price of a Furnace Repair
Most of the cost comes from which part failed and how hard it is to reach. A flame sensor cleaning is a short job, while a new control board or blower motor brings a costlier part and more labor. In every case, you get the quote in writing before we begin and know the total before you choose.
- Which part gave out
- Igniters, sensors and switches are less expensive than inducer motors, blower motors or control boards. Certain repairs call for a part made specifically for your model.
- The furnace's type and age
- High-efficiency units have extra parts, like condensate systems and a secondary heat exchanger. Parts for older furnaces can be harder to track down.
- Getting to the furnace
- A furnace with clear space around it is quicker to work on. One wedged into a tight crawl space or attic takes more time, and labor tracks the hours.
- When you call
- With no emergency or after-hours fees, a night or weekend visit is priced like a weekday one. You pay only for the repair.
Questions About Furnace Repair
Something not covered here? (208) 834-9366
Should I fix my furnace or put in a new one?
We weigh the furnace's age, the cost of this repair and how often it has needed service lately. When the price is fair and the heat exchanger is solid, repair is usually the right call. If we'd lean toward replacing it, we'll tell you why, and you make the decision.
Is it okay to reset the furnace on my own?
Go ahead and confirm the thermostat is on heat, the furnace power switch is on and the filter is clean. If it locks out again after a single reset, leave it alone. Resetting over and over can mask a genuine safety issue.
What makes a furnace shut off a few minutes after starting?
Common causes are a dirty flame sensor, overheating or a bad limit switch. A thermostat in the wrong spot can do it too. We test every one of these so you don't pay for parts that weren't at fault.
How is the diagnostic fee handled?
There is a fee for the diagnostic visit. If you have us do the repair, that fee is subtracted from the repair price, and you'll see the credit on your written quote.
Do you repair furnaces beyond Hayden?
We do. Along with Hayden, we fix furnaces in Coeur d'Alene, Rathdrum, Post Falls, Otis Orchards-East Farms and Liberty Lake.
What can I do to prevent another breakdown?
Have it tuned up every year before cold weather. That visit finds tired igniters, dirty sensors and loose wires early. Our maintenance plans come with tune-ups, repair discounts and priority scheduling.
